Informed Consent for Psychological Counseling

This page provides information about psychological counselling, the framework of our work, and the applicable fees.

Psychological counselling is a professional relationship structured by specific ethical and practical principles. It differs from friendly conversations or expert consultations. Much depends on both the psychologist’s and the client’s personalities, as well as the difficulties you wish to address.

Counselling is also not like visiting a doctor. It involves active participation during and between sessions. Together, we will explore aspects of your life — including thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. This process can sometimes bring discomfort, as personal change often involves stepping outside one’s comfort zone. I may offer reflective or experiential exercises to deepen self-understanding and support the therapeutic process. These may include journaling, self-observation, brief experiments, or reading materials.

Format and Payment

Sessions typically take place once a week but may occur more or less frequently depending on your needs.

Each session lasts 50 minutes and is conducted online via Google Meet, or another agreed-upon platform.

The standard fee is 60 EUR per session.

Payment is requested within 24 hours before or after each session. The first session is prepaid. Subsequent sessions can only take place once previous ones have been paid.

Accepted payment methods include Revolut, PayPal, IBAN transfer, or cryptocurrency. The fee is reviewed no more than once per year, with prior notice.

Cancellations or rescheduling must be communicated at least 24 hours in advance. If cancelled later, I will ask for 50% of the session fee. The same rule applies to me: if I reschedule or cancel within less than 24 hours, the next session will be 50% off. You can reschedule yourself (if more than 24 hours remain) using the link in the confirmation email from hello@cal.com.

In cases of force majeure (illness, accident, emergency hospitalisation, power or internet outage, natural disaster, or urgent family circumstances), I do not charge for cancellations. The key is to inform each other as soon as possible.

Communication

You can contact me on WhatsApp or Telegram: +351 928 351 895. I may not always be available but will respond as soon as possible.

I do not communicate with clients through social media or add them as friends.

Confidentiality

I adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Portuguese Psychologists’ Association (Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses). All communication is confidential. Written or electronic records are kept only in anonymised form and only with your consent.

I do not seek information about clients online. However, you may come across information about me on the internet or from others. If this raises questions, please bring them up so we can consider whether it might affect our work.

I do not share information about our sessions with anyone without your explicit permission. If we meet by chance (including online), I will act as though we are not acquainted to protect your privacy. You are free to disclose our work together if you wish.

Confidential information may be disclosed if I become aware of actual or intended harm to yourself or others, or if there is a serious threat to someone’s life or health. I will make every effort to discuss this with you before taking any action.

At times, I consult with professional supervisors or colleagues (such as a psychiatrist or legal expert). In these cases, I discuss client matters only in anonymised and generalised form.

Scheduling a session and beginning our work together means you agree to these terms for the duration of our collaboration.
